Medical Treatment for Contact Lens issues

Certain eye problems that are caused by contact lens require medical treatment as remedy. Medical treatment for contact lens issues can include refraining from wearing contact lenses for a short period of time to intensive treatment using antibiotics for infections.

Most treatment periods require the patient to wear traditional glasses. Once the treatment has been successfully concluded, the patient will be fitted with new or different lenses which suit his/her individual requirement. If only one eye is infected, the patient may be advised to stop using the contact lens on the second unaffected eye. This is because some of the infections can spread to the

If the contact lens is worn out or is torn, it needs to be replaced immediately. You should always keep replacement lens where which will ensure that you will always have extra lens to replace damaged ones with and that's something you can do by yourself at home.

If the doctor suspects a lens incompatibility with the solution provided, the care regimen is evaluated and the patient may have to change the solution depending on the result. Also, if the lens does not fit well enough, it is recommended that it be changed at the earliest possible. The new lens that will be fitted instead may be of the same or a different material altogether depending on whether it's better tolerated or provides better vision.

Infections usually require the administration of antibiotics to be remedied. However, in most cases eye drops are used as they are much more effective then their pill form counterparts. Your ophthalmologist will choose the best eye drop solution for your specific eye condition which may need to be used as often as every hour. You may have to consult the doctor everyday for severe infections.

Corneal infections are usually evaluated with the help of an infection culture which helps the doctor decide on the best eye drop to be prescribed. Rare occasions may merit surgical intervention.

If conservative treatments fail in remedying the problem, the patient may be given antibiotic injections in the eye or may eventually need to get a cornea surgery performed.
