#1 Killer among teens
The number one killer of teenagers is drunk driving. More than 3,500 teens are killed and another 85,000 are injured each year in car crashes involving alcohol. Not all have been drinking; some are passengers or innocent targets of people who drink and drive. Someone in the United States is killed in an alcohol-related traffic accident every 23 minutes. That someone could be your best friend. It could be you.

Teens can HELP each other
Be smarter and safer by organizing buses, carpools, or limousines for prom nights and other school parties. If you are out with a group of friends, be sure to have a designated driver, someone who pledges not to drink at all. If you or someone else makes one mistake -- illegal drinking, don't compound it with a second mistake -- driving under the influence. Get parents to sign pledges that they will not serve beer or alcohol to teens in their homes. Ask a student who has been involved in an alcohol-related accident to speak to your club or even a school assembly about its consequences. Suggest that parents and teachers run a hotline on prom night. If students have trouble getting to or from the dance or are riding with someone who's been drinking, they can call for a safe ride with no questions asked. When you're old enough to buy beer, wine and liquor, don't buy it for younger people. You're not doing them any favors. It's illegal, and you could get a criminal record.

Reality of Drinking
I went to a party, Mom, I remembered what you said. You told me not to drink, Mom, so I drank soda instead I really felt proud inside, Mom, the way you said I would. I didn't drink and drive, Mom, even though the others said I should. I know I did the right thing, Mom, I know you are always right. Now the party is finally ending Mom, as everyone is driving out of sight. As I got into my car, Mom, I knew I'd get home in one piece. Because of the way you raised me, so responsible and sweet. I started to drive away, Mom, but as I pulled out into the road, the other car didn't see me, Mom, and hit me like a load. As I lay there on the pavement, Mom, I hear the policeman say, the other guy is drunk, Mom, and now I'm the one who will pay. I'm lying here dying, Mom.. I wish you'd get here soon. How could this happen to me, Mom? My life just burst like a balloon. There is blood all around me, Mom, and most of it is mine. I hear the medic say, Mom, I'll die in a short time. I just wanted to tell you, Mom, I swear I didn't drink. It was the others, Mom. The others didn't think. He was probably at the same party as I. The only difference is, he drank and I will die. Why do people drink, Mom? It can ruin your whole life. I'm feeling sharp pains now. Pains just like a knife. The guy who hit me is walking, Mom, and I don't think it's fair. I'm lying here dying and all he can do is stare. Tell my brother not to cry, Mom. Tell Daddy to be brave. And when I go to heaven, Mom, put "Daddy's Girl" on my grave. Someone should have told him, Mom, not to drink and drive. If only they had told him, Mom, I would still be alive. My breath is getting shorter, Mom. I'm becoming very scared. Please don't cry for me, Mom. When I needed you, you were always there. I have one last question, Mom, before I say good bye. I didn't drink and drive, so why am I the one to die?

IT DOESN'T SEEM TO MATTER
The ice cream man is coming, I can hear him ring his bell, The children run to meet him, To buy the goodies he sells. They never even notice, The cars out in the street, The only thing you hear is, The sound of running feet. But then one day it happens, A car comes speeding by, He had to much to drink so, Somebody's going to die. He doesn't even realize, The life he's going to take, He doesn't stop to think of, The hearts he's going to break. He doesn't hear the sound of, A mother when she screams, It doesn't seem to matter, That he took away her dreams. His mind is really cloudy, He isn't thinking clear, How could he think of driving, After drinking all that beer. Some day our prayers will be answered, Drunk driving will finally cease, the drivers that took our loved ones away, will finally rest in peace.

The Challenge
Teenage drunk driving accidents leave 5,000 parents devastated each year. Thousands of other parents deal with teenagers who emerge from drunk driving accidents alive but gravely changed — beautiful young daughters burned, athletic sons paralyzed, promising college-bound teens now struggling for words. Drunk driving accidents injure far more than their immediate teenage victims: a brother or sister may be plagued with guilt for not taking the car keys an older neighbor may forever regret buying the alcohol a classmate may live with nightmares for being the one who was driving drunk but survived. Sadly, more than five million American high school students binge drink at least once per month. With thoughts that they are not "that" drunk, that they are too scared to call their parents to get a safe ride home, or that they don't want to anger their friends by refusing to get in the car, these teenagers often hit the road — a recipe for disaster for themselves, their passengers, and any innocent motorists who get in their path. The good news is that you can help prevent teenage drunk-driving accidents, not only by never serving alcohol to minors but by encouraging teenagers and their parents to take responsibility for their actions.

Drunk Driving
Close by the door he pauses to stand as he slips his class ring off of her hand. All those who watch do not care to speak as a single tear rolls down his cheek. All through his mind memories ran of all the fun times they had once had. He held his class ring and began to cry He kissed her cheek and wanted to die! As the wind began to blow they lowered her casket down below. This is what happens to many alive when friends let friends DRINK AND DRIVE!!!!!
