The Holy Crown
The Holy Crown of Hungary on the 10 000 Forint note Foreigners say Hungarian people are happy. If they would like to look at the Hungarian Crown (on the head of King Stephan) they can take a 10 000 Ft note: the picture is on that. Let's do it. Looking at the picture you'll get surprised: that is a quite different crown from the wellknown one which you could see since 1978 in the National Museum in Budapest and you can see now in the building of the Hungarian Parliament. In a short time you can realize the crown on the paper (money) is a funeral crown on the first Hungarian king's head. The question is whether it could happen in another country to advertise one of the most valuable symbols of the country in such a negative way ? The real problem I think is in us inside. We are superficial and inattentive. Anyway how to explain that nobody has protested since the emission of the 10000 HUF note? We accept without saying a word that there is no official explanation on the signes proving the picture of Mihály Dukász (Byzantine emperor) was put on the crown later. Without putting good questions how can we expect right answers? The special importance of the Hungarian Crown - why is holy the (Hungarian) Holy Crown? There was a strict rule concerning the coronation of the Hungarian King: it must be held on a main holiday in Fehérvár and celebrated by the arcbishop of Esztergom. It can be easily accepted, because the inititation crown (in contrast to the home and ruler crowns) was only once on the head of the ruler: during the coronation ceremony. This action never can be repeated so she is of a great importance. Why is holy the (Hungarian) Holy Crown?.By Franz Bock it is not automatic to give a crown the "holy" attributive. The only crown having a bit similar importance is the Crown of the Holy Roman Empire. But it was never called "holy" (only the Empire was holy) - it was a ruler crown. The only initation crown in the modern history of the civilisation.is the hungarian Crown (see V. Diószegi's works and J. Frazer: Golden Branch* - shaman and "táltos" /priest-magician/ crowns). By the general rule the crowns were made for the ruler except Hungary where the ruler was chosen to the crown. By the Hungarian Law the Crown was the highest dignitary of the land, i.e. she was over the king in ranking. The Crown structure follows the "golden section" rule, the two main parts are in closed unity. Her ornamentation consists of 19 enamel-works. She has a greater sacred importance and a so called "pictographic program" (a message valid for the future). The Crown of the Holy Roman Empire - having only four enamel pictures - has also a pictographic program (see Staats: Die Theologie der Reichskrone, 1976 - Theology of the Crown of the Holy Roman Empire). A prove for the very special role of the Hungarian crown that there is no authentic picture of the Hungarian Crown until the 15th century (the initiation crowns were considered as irrepresentable objects). I think the above mentioned specialities give the basis for the "holy" attributive of the Hungarian Crown having been called "holy" since the canonizing of Stephan I. in 1083. *sorry, I do not know the oroginal title, the English translation of ARANY ÁG is golden branch
